Operational (NICU RT) Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY



Supervises clinical and clerical support staff in assigned area of responsibility.  Assists in overseeing unit budget and operations ensuring quality patient care and cost effectiveness.  Assists Department manager/director in the implementation of unit, department and institutional strategic goals.  Assists department manager/director with employee performance issues and provides input for performance evaluations in conjunction with department manager/director. As needed, provides clinical care. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing or respiratory philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.









MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support and supervision to Unit staff, in the delivery of patient care and carrying out strategic vision.

 

Monitors staff resource utilization, including preparing and reviewing daily staff schedules, addressing short term fluctuations and assigning daily work and/or patient assignments.

 

Assists in staff development, training and education and assures compliance with department and System policies and procedures.

 

Functions as a coach and role model for staff and monitors performance, recommending corrective action and participating in discipline as needed. Provides input for performance evaluations for professional and ancillary staff.

 

Facilitate efficient patient flow through the system and/or area. Implements plans and tactics for area of responsibility.

 

Assists the Director in monitoring and maintaining supply resource utilization and expense, within established budget parameters.

 

Assists the Director with monitoring, evaluating and modifying department and management scorecard plans. Implements and evaluates plan effectiveness.

 

Monitors, evaluates and resets operational and clinical methods and outcomes and communicates progress to Director.

 

Participates in frontline interventions, monitors staff and patient response to care. Markets service to internal and external customers, maintaining service excellence.

 

ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.
