Laboratory Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY | |||||
Supervises technical and clerical support staff in assigned area of responsibility. Oversees technical, operational, financial, and educational functions of department ensuring quality care and cost effectiveness. Assists Manager in the implementation of department and institutional strategic goals. Oversees continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives. | |||||
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES |
• | Provides support and supervision to staff, in the delivery of department services and carrying out strategic vision. In collaboration with Manager, establishes short- and long-range objectives for the Department that integrate the Health System’s values and service excellence philosophy and assures regulatory compliance and accreditation.

• | Schedules and supervises the employees. Performs payroll changes and adjustments for the staff within the department. Works with each employee to determine job objectives, work methods and performance standards. Appraises their performance relative to the laboratory’s mission and goals and discusses with employees.

• | Participates in personnel functions, including hiring, termination, orientation, and competency assessment. Assists in staff development, training and education of employees and Medical Laboratory Science Students. Assures compliance with department and System policies and procedures.

• | Participates in the Laboratory’s QI Program by setting and evaluating goals for service levels.
|
• | Develops, introduces, and evaluates new procedures and equipment. Ensures that the department is in compliant with all regulatory agencies. Monitors operation expenses and analyses variances.

• | Establishes analytical standards for the department. Stays informed of developments, trends, and technology.
|
• | Performs job functions of Medical Laboratory Scientist as required by workload or staffing.
|
• | Maintains the functions of a Technical Supervisor and a General Supervisor as defined under CLIA guidelines and as delegated by the Laboratory Medical Director.
