JOB SUMMARY



Provides professional leadership and management of all laboratory services throughout the Health System.  Ensures comprehensive, competent and coordinated client centered service for both internal and external clients.  Develops and implements business and strategic plans ensuring optimal delivery of laboratory services, integration of Pathologists, integration with other clinical and patient care services departments, as well as successful financial performance.  Manages delivery of service assuring compliance with governmental regulations and accrediting agency standards. Oversees continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as Health System initiatives.









MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

In conjunction with the Vice President and Pathologists defines department goals, objectives, strategic plan and standards. Formulates and communicates department policies that integrate the organization’s values, service excellence philosophy and assure regulatory compliance and accreditation.

 

Monitors, evaluates and takes appropriate actions to ensure staff competency and compliance with accreditation requirements and Health System policies.

 

Monitors department operations, productivity, compliance with OIG and accreditation requirements. Evaluates the effectiveness of services and recommending necessary resources to accomplish agreed upon goals.

 

Develops, monitors and manages department budgets.

 

Oversees the development and implementation of a Safety and QI Program for the Laboratory.

 

Uses technical knowledge and expertise to function as a coach, resource and mentor motivating, developing and educating staff, facilitating problem resolution and maintaining an environment which promotes positive change strategies and individual growth.

 

Oversees the System wide Point of Care Testing and Phlebotomy Training Program.

 

Oversees laboratory services for external clients including marketing, maintaining ongoing client relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring quality service.

 

Maintains the functions of a Technical Supervisor and a General Supervisor as defined under CLIA guidelines and as delegated by the Laboratory Medical Director.

 

ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE UW HEALTH PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.

American Society for Clinical Pathology registered as Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, Cytotechnologist, Specialist in Cytotechnology, Histotechnician, Histotechnologist, Technologist in Blood Bank, Specialist in Blood Bank, Phlebotomist, Diplomate in Laboratory Management or other relevant certification.
