The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) seeks a full-time, experienced physician or education leader to serve as Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education. Reporting directly to the Regional Dean, this critical role is responsible for ensuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards, supporting residency and fellowship program directors, leading initiatives to enhance GME program quality and accreditation across clinical training sites, and serving as the primary contact for ACGME site visits.


This position involves direct oversight of resident and fellow well-being, developing and implementing institutional policies to maintain compliance, and chairing the Graduate Medical Education Committee. Additional duties may include working with UW Northern Illinois Hospital to ensure adherence to ACGME CLER program requirements, collaborating with residency chiefs to establish a Residency Council, and providing regular updates to executive committees across training hospitals. The Assistant Dean will also participate in faculty development efforts to foster a supportive learning environment across all specialties, conducting internal reviews and supporting the development of fellowship programs within the institution.

The ideal candidate will hold an MD, DO, or its foreign equivalent, or a Doctorate in Education or a related field. They will have demonstrated experience as a residency program director or in a leadership role involving residency or fellowship training. The candidate must possess comprehensive knowledge of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements for both institutions and individual programs, as evidenced by prior experience or certification. Additionally, they must have a proven ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, including residency program directors, faculty, residents, and executive hospital committees. A strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment is essential, including experience in mentorship, advocacy, or professional development initiatives for residents and fellows.

The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $135,000 to $300,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience while also considering internal equity. Additional incentive compensation may also be available for clinical work performed beyond the standard scope of responsibilities.
