Seeking a Chair for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) to join the leadership of our medical college. Opportunities for department growth, innovation, and scholarship. The Department of Psychiatry consists of the Chair, clerkship director, administrative staff, and community-based psychiatrists throughout the state of Illinois who participate in medical student education. The Chair is responsible for ensuring high-quality pre-clinical and clinical medical education in Psychiatry, recruiting and retaining community-based faculty, and growth of relevant scholarship and research.
UICOM has three campuses (Chicago, Peoria, and Rockford), which together constitute the second-largest medical school in the country. The primary focus of UICOM is excellence in medical student education. The medical curriculum is shared across all three campuses. Clinical education for our medical students is provided through our community hospitals. Our Rockford campus hosts a rural medicine program, which encourages and supports medical student education in rural areas across the state of Illinois. The College’s GME programs include one residency program in Family Medicine, a Headache Medicine fellowship, and a newly funded Addiction Medicine fellowship.
Rockford, IL, is home to our 4 partnering health systems and 2 federally qualified health centers (FQHC). The Chair’s clinical practice will be associated with one of these systems. UICOMR GME programs are affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Health SwedishAmerican Hospital, the busiest tertiary care facility in Rockford, which also has an inpatient psychiatry unit. Rosecrance Health is a multi-state behavioral health system with residential and outpatient behavioral health and addiction facilities for adults and adolescents. Our other health system partners include OSF and Mercy Health. UI Health Mile Square Health Center, FQHC, is the site of our integrated care services including behavioral medicine. Crusader Community Health is our area’s largest FQHC.
The UICOMR has a robust infrastructure for education and support for research through our Office of Research to support the incoming Chair. We offer a competitive and attractive salary and benefits package.

The ideal candidate is an MD/DO board-certified Psychiatrist licensed or license-eligible to practice in Illinois and appointed at the assistant, associate or professor rank within the University of Illinois system. Candidate must also be able to maintain clinical privileges at a partnering healthcare institution. The candidate will demonstrate experience in medical education, excellence in communication, healthcare administration, leadership, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
